Aya Talal Qassem, a young Alawite student was abducted on the morning of Wednesday, April 16, shortly after leaving her home in the city of Tartous in Syria.
Yesterday, her family received distressing calls (videos recordings are below) from her phone. Each question is met with silence, but in the background, the anguished cries and screams of Aya can be heard, leaving her family in utter despair.
This personal tragedy is a reflection of the broader atrocities occurring in the Syrian Coast area including Latakia and Tartus. Reports indicate a surge in abductions, with numerous Alawite women kidnapped in recent months along the Syrian coast. Human rights organizations are urging for these acts to be investigated as war crimes.
