Extrajudicial Executions and Murder Crimes in Syria



Crimes Documented Between December 8 and February 18

1- December 18, 2024 – Location: Central Homs
The lifeless bodies of Muhammad Sofi and his brother Ali Sofi, who had been kidnapped on December 16, were found.

2- December 24, 2025 – Location: Masyaf village, northwestern countryside of Hama
Three Alawite judges were executed. They were killed while returning from a meeting in Hama, and their bodies were dumped at Rabia Junction.

3- January 5, 2025 – Location: Central Homs
During large-scale attacks on Alawite neighborhoods, folk artist Bahaa El Yusuf's sister and aunt were murdered in their home, while his nephew was left seriously injured.

4- January 7, 2025
Sheikh Jaber Mahmoud Issa, head of the Syrian National Reconciliation Initiative, was assassinated along with Sheikh Heysem Mualla and Sheikh Muhammad Watfa. Their vehicle was sprayed with bullets on the Damascus-Tartus road.

5- January 9, 2025 – Location: Near Sanidah village
Sheikh Ali Deeb Abu Rami (65 years old) and his wife Narman Hadid were kidnapped from the village of Danibah in Salamiya. Their bodies were later found on the roadside near Sanidah village. This incident sparked widespread anger and condemnation in the region.

6- January 9, 2025 – Location: Ayn Sharqia village, Latakia province
Three Alawite farmers, including a child, were murdered by Islamist groups while working in their fields. The victims, all from the same family, were:

Musa Izzeddin (Ammar Izzeddin’s son)

Muhammad Husameddin (Ammar Izzeddin’s nephew)

7- January 10, 2025 – Location: Damascus
Former village head Dummar Mazen Kanina was hanged in public without trial on allegations of supporting the regime. The execution was forced upon children to watch.

8- January 10, 2025 – Location: Baniyas, Karfis village
Young pharmacist Kusay Hamza Abbud was kidnapped, and his body was later found on a farm in the village, bound and stabbed.

9- January 12, 2025 – Location: Homs, El Vaar
Five young men, four of whom were brothers, were murdered, and their bodies were found in an abandoned location. Their names:

10- January 12, 2025 – Location: Unknown
A young man named Abdullah Naem, the only son among six sisters, was kidnapped two days prior. On January 12, his lifeless body was discovered bearing signs of torture.

11- January 13, 2025 – Location: Al-Mazraa, Homs
Hasan Gassan Ibrahim, a young man who had been kidnapped on December 9, 2024, was found dead in the western towers of Al-Mazraa village.

12- January 15, 2025 – Location: Latakia
A man named Maher, an Alawite father, was brutally murdered by HTS militants after being kidnapped. His body was dumped in the street.

13- January 15, 2025 – Location: Sharqia village, Latakia
HTS militants murdered Jaafar Mahmud Saeed solely because he was Alawite.

January 16, 2025: Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Report

By this date, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had recorded numerous violations, including mass arrests and 197 documented murders across 95 attacks in Alawite regions. Breakdown of deaths:

Homs: 34 attacks, 77 men and 3 women killed

Hama: 34 crimes, 72 men and 3 women killed

Latakia: 17 crimes, 1 woman and 29 men killed

Tartus: 10 crimes, 11 men and 1 child killed
The killings continued even after this report.

14- January 17, 2025 – Location: Damascus/Douma
Two male bodies were found in a landfill. One was identified as Ahmed Alaya, while the other was Yaser Ali, a young man who supported his family by selling licorice root juice.

15- January 20, 2025 – Location: Ayn el-Laban, Latakia countryside
Armed groups attacked the village, targeting 38-year-old Hasan Rifat Hishma while he was harvesting lemons in his orchard. He was beaten, shot in the hands and feet, and left to die while his van was stolen. He managed to crawl back home but later died from excessive blood loss.

16- January 20, 2025 – Location: Khirbet el-Hamam, Western Homs
Armed groups tortured and humiliated villagers, looted homes, and shot at people in the streets as they withdrew. Three people were executed.

17- January 22, 2025 – Location: Eastern Homs countryside
A young man named Muhammad El Sarim was executed in public by gunfire.

18- January 22, 2025 – Location: Western Homs countryside
HTS-affiliated groups launched simultaneous operations in seven Alawite villages, leading to mass arrests. Hundreds of detainees were taken to the Asi riverbed and never returned. The next day, one of the detainees, Basel El Kasim, was found with his hands tied and throat slit at the entrance of the village.

19- January 23, 2025 – Location: Fahel village, Homs
A massacre in Fahel village resulted in the killing of 58 people. A 6-year-old girl named Naya Mahmud Kasim died of a heart attack after witnessing her father's torture and execution.

20- January 23, 2025 – Location: Maryamin village junction, Western Homs
At an HTS checkpoint, two employees of the Electricity Corporation were singled out as Alawites and executed. Their bodies were later found at the entrance of Fahel village. Victims:

21- January 23, 2025 – Location: Al-Kabou, Homs countryside
Armed groups stormed the village early in the morning, firing indiscriminately for hours before conducting house raids and arrests. Looting was reported, and many villagers were subjected to sectarian insults and abductions. A man named Ismail Abu Mayhoub was later found dead with his hand severed.

22- January 23, 2025 – Location: Al-Kanakiya village, Western Homs
Armed factions linked to the General Command entered the area following their advance into Damascus. Dozens of violations, including sectarian insults, physical assaults, torture, and arbitrary arrests, were recorded. Families petitioned authorities in Homs and Damascus to release detainees, but no response was received.

23- January 24, 2025 – Location: Near Jebla, Latakia
A mass grave was discovered containing the bodies of 11 missing Alawite civilians. They had been kidnapped weeks earlier from the southern Latakia countryside. Their bodies showed signs of torture, and some were burned.

24- January 25, 2025 – Location: Eastern Hama countryside
A convoy carrying displaced families was attacked by extremist groups. Six people, including women and children, were executed.

25- January 26, 2025 – Location: Daraa
The bodies of two Syrian soldiers, Fadi Mardini and Haitham Al-Khatib, were found mutilated. They had been missing for three days.

26- January 27, 2025 – Location: Latakia countryside
A group of shepherds were ambushed. Three men were executed on the spot, while their livestock was stolen. The victims were later identified as:

27- January 28, 2025 – Location: Hama, Salamiya countryside
A retired Alawite teacher, Yusuf Alwan, was kidnapped by armed militants. His body was found days later in a well.

28- January 29, 2025 – Location: Tartus
The body of an Alawite farmer named Faris Al-Muhammad was found in his orchard. He had been shot execution-style.

29- January 30, 2025 – Location: Idlib countryside
A military checkpoint was attacked by armed groups. Ten Syrian soldiers were executed, and their bodies were displayed in public as a warning.

30- February 1, 2025 – Location: Aleppo
The body of a young Alawite man named Ayman Al-Sayed was found with signs of severe torture.

31- February 2, 2025 – Location: Homs, Al-Waer neighborhood
A medical student named Khaled Jibran was kidnapped by armed men. His body was found two days later, showing signs of torture.

32- February 3, 2025 – Location: Hama countryside
Three farmers were killed while working in their fields. The victims were:

33- February 4, 2025 – Location: Latakia countryside
A mass execution of seven people took place in a remote village. Their hands were tied, and they were shot in the head.

34- February 5, 2025 – Location: Tartus countryside
A young Alawite woman named Rasha Al-Khatib was abducted while traveling. Her body was found later with signs of torture.

35- February 6, 2025 – Location: Homs countryside
Two elderly men, named Hasan Al-Sayed and Jamil Ramadan, were kidnapped and executed. Their bodies were found days later.

36- February 7, 2025 – Location: Daraa countryside
A former soldier, Ahmed Suleiman, was found dead with gunshot wounds to the head.

37- February 8, 2025 – Location: Damascus countryside
The bodies of three kidnapped individuals were found near a military base. They were identified as:

38- February 9, 2025 – Location: Aleppo countryside
A civilian bus was ambushed, and five passengers were executed on the spot.

39- February 10, 2025 – Location: Homs countryside
A young boy, Rami Jibran, was found dead after being abducted.

40- February 11, 2025 – Location: Eastern Homs
Three young men were kidnapped, tortured, and executed. Their bodies were found in a cave.

41- February 12, 2025 – Location: Hama countryside
A group of shepherds were attacked. Four men were killed, and their livestock was stolen.

42- February 13, 2025 – Location: Latakia countryside
Two young men were found executed. Their families had been searching for them for weeks.

43- February 14, 2025 – Location: Damascus
A well-known journalist, Mahmoud Al-Rifai, was assassinated.

44- February 15, 2025 – Location: Homs countryside
A teacher named Samir Khalil was found murdered.

45- February 16, 2025 – Location: Hama countryside
An entire family of five was found executed in their home.

46- February 17, 2025 – Location: Latakia countryside
The bodies of three missing soldiers were found.

47- February 18, 2025 – Location: Damascus countryside
A mass grave containing 15 bodies was discovered. The victims were believed to be civilians.
